In my current laptop ive got an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Tech. TL-56 CPU, which runs at 1.8ghz. Does this mean each core runs at that, or they run at 1.8 at a combined total?

I ask because I got starcraft 2, haven't opened it yet, and it says the minimum is a 2.6ghz CPU single core. If i can't run it, im gunna bring it back for a refund but i can't do that if i open it. so i wanna make sure first.

The clock speed listed for a multi-core CPU applies to each core. In this case, each core of the TL-56 runs at 1.8GHz

How well the TL-56 compares to a single core 2.6GHz would depend upon what single-core CPU that is. Also, the graphics "chip" in the laptop would have a big influence on the playability of the game.

P.s. I have no problem with a "gamer" asking that question. I wonder how much xInitialz knows about the inner workings of an Xbox, Wii, or PS3 - and how much do you need to know in order to be a "gamer"?

im a casual gamer who really liked the first starcraft so decided to get the second, and i dunno the technicalities of computers. gimme a break

I'm not looking for anything stellar, just the bare minimum requirements is good enough for me (im upgrading my crappy laptop to a newer, more recent one next year (: ). Do you think it'll be enough for that?

You can try the System Requirements Lab website. if you are unshure on games go there and see if "Can you Run It" its just a big list of games and it tests your hardware.

I use it alot when thinking about buying new games.

system requirements lab is quite helpfull altough not always right it said my laptop couldn't play mw 2 but it can and I never have any problems or w/e but its still very usefull...

I tried it before I made this thread but it wouldn't load. It would get to the installation section and I'd download it, but it would never complete installing. So I came here :P

im not looking for stellar graphics, just the ability to play. but i suppose my old laptop is due for the update im getting it in march/april for GW2..

i could install it on my brothers mac.. hm.

The graphic chip will probably be the determining factor for playing SC2 so i would check what you have in your laptop.

As an alternate method:

I'm guessing that your bro's game came with guest passes. You could use one of those and try to run it. You'll know for sure that way.

my graphics chip fits in with the minimum requirement for the game, the processor was the only thing stopping me from opening it.

and its my game, but if i open it and it didn't work I can't return it to EBGames and get my 65$ back xD but if it turns out it wont work, its still closed so i can just get my refund :P

Sorry for almost double posting but i should mention that notebook graphic chips are less powerful than their desktop counterparts. That is to say that a GeForce 6600 Go (notebook card) will be less powerful than a GeForce 6600 (desktop card) which is the minimum reqs.

Also the numbering scheme for video cards is important as well. A GeForce 6600 will be more powerful than a GeForce 7300 when it comes to games, the first number representing the generation of the GPU and the second number represents what the card is meant for, it's a "rough" rule of thumbs that you can use to narrow down your GPU choices.

I used older generation video cards as an example because i'm assuming that's what you have.

If you have someone that has a guest pass you can use, then you could always try it on your notebook.

EDIT: Note that at some point, the GPU generation will mean more performance than if the card was meant for gaming or not. For example, the GT 330M is roughly as powerful as an old 9600M GT which should pay SC2 well enough.

EDIT2: Like someone else said: It's Blizzard it'll run on a slightly supped toaster.
